Old Year’s Resolution

Resisting the tradition, I’ve decided to make an Old Year’s Resolution. Why wait until January, when I’m likely to feel too Christmassed to think straight?
So, looking over my shoulder at 2023, I can see something I wanted to do, meant to do, thought I would do, and yet, and yet…. Somehow my intention to blog did not evolve into action. In my defence, it was quite a busy year. My bookish highlights have been:
* Putting the final touches to my new novel ‘The Haunting of Hecate Cavendish’! I can’t wait to share this story with you. ARCs are currently available to industry peeps on Netgalley, and Goodreads have a giveaway running if you’re quick…
* Planning and plotting Book II in the Hecate Cavendish series. The idea is to keep momentum going so that there is as short a wait a possible between the first two books.
* Making a deal for the adaptation of the Found Things books to become a TV series. I am so excited about this! The team behind the project love the books and are committed to keeping as close to them as possible as we bring Xanthe’s adventures to the small screen.
* Inking a contract for my first screenwriting commission (see above!). This is such a long held ambition, I feel very fortunate to have such a tremendous opportunity. I have been head down for several months putting together the scripts for Season One.
* Taking on my new, glamorous assistant! My daughter, Skyla, has joined me in my writer’s room, here at the top of this creaking Victorian house with views across the ancient city of Hereford. It’s only been a few weeks, but already I know we are going to have a lot of fun, and who knows, might even get some work done. Skyla is super organised and very creative, so my office has had a much needed overhaul.

So, my Old Year’s Resolution is to blog, frequently if irregularly, keeping you up to date with all things bookish, including a step-by-step account of the process of taking a book to the screen; what it’s like to launch a new book series; and general book and screen news. Skyla will also be blogging about what it’s like to work as a writer’s PA. I’m looking forward to reading those!
Yay, Mum, go us!
I hope the transition to the Small Screen stay
s true to the books! Will we in the US be able to view on BritBox?
We are aiming to stay as close to the books as possible! Not sure of channel details yet but you will definitely be able to view in the US.
Paula, this is such wonderful news, I am so happy for you and for Skyla, who is now working with you. Can’t wait to read Hecate and looking forward to Skyla’s blogs too. I know that The Found Things series will be great if you’re screenwriting – Come on, 2024!!
Thank you, Judy! It’s lovely to have such exciting upcoming projects. Can’t wait to share them with everyone.
I’m so happy for you! I know that this is just a glimpse of what’s coming for your fans!
It is very exciting!
So many wonderful things in the works, I’m so happy for you! Can’t wait to read them all and see them all! ❤️
